The Britannia E-Line range cooker comes with optional stay-clean liners for the roof, back and sides of the ovens. Stay-clean liners help keep your oven like new. Simply heat the oven to maximum temperature for 45 minutes from time to time.

E-Line range cookers are fitted with adjustable legs to enable the height of the cooker to be altered to a level that is flush with your kitchen work surfaces.

The UK’s Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations require that all retailers of electrical goods assist in delivering a UK wide WEEE collection system and encourage consumers in the participation of recycling electronic equipment.

So that you can get your waste electrical goods recycled, we have contributed towards a national fund to assist local councils to develop their existing waste electronics collection facilities. This should in turn allow producers of this equipment to meet their obligations.

In order to meet our obligations as a retailer/distributor we have opted to become a full member of the Distributor Take back Scheme (DTS). Membership of the DTS gives us exemption from the requirement to provide in-store take back of WEEE from private households on a like for like basis, free of charge.

Alternatively you can contact your local council offices to arrange for a home collection of WEEE, there may be a small charge for home collections.

Electronic waste is one of the fastest growing waste streams and much of it can be recycled and resources recovered to make new consumer goods. To remind consumers of the collection methods available, which in turn allow recycling to take place, all electrical items sold now carry the ‘crossed out wheeled bin’ symbol.

Induction – The future of cooking!

Stoves pride themselves on being at the forefront of innovation and technology. That’s why, in a number of their products you’ll find induction technology – a unique new way of cooking that uses no direct heat source.

Without getting too technical, induction is like having an individual heating element embedded in the base of each pan. What is TrueSteam?

Steam particles are smaller than water droplets and can penetrate fabrics better. This improves washing performance and water consumption.

Steam is the most intense form of cleaning because steam molecules are 1600 times smaller than water molecules allowing them to penetrate right into the fabric and remove far more dirt than a normal wash. It’s not just the initial cost of a washing machine that has an impact on your bank balance, the energy it uses keeps on costing you through your electricity bill during the course of its lifetime, too.

The cost of running a washing machine over its lifetime really adds up. Your washing machine uses electricity to heat water and turn the drum every time you use it – but some machines are cheaper to run that others, especially if you’re cleaning several loads a week and using higher temperatures. Choose a cheaper-to-run machine and your electricity bills will be lower.

While there’s not a great difference between the annual running costs of different washing machines, some cheap models can cost more than their initial purchase price to run over 10 years. An energy saving washing machine will typically cost around £15-£20 per year to run, compared with some that will add around £35 to your annual energy bill

How washing machines compare on efficiency

Energy

Washing machine energy efficiency has improved in recent years, but some washing machines remain more energy efficient than others.

Water

The average washing machine uses 9.5 litres of water for every kilogram of cotton clothes it washes. But  water usage varies between models, ranging from an 8kg machine that can use just 5.5 litres of water per kilogram to an 6kg washer that consumes 22.7 litres of water per kilogram.

While the better performing washing machines use 44 litres of water at maximum capacity, the less water efficient models – with a smaller capacity - can use 136.2 litres.

To put those figures into perspective, if you always washed at max capacity and did the average three 40ºC cotton washes a week for a year, the good machine would save you 4,203 litres less water – more than 52 baths of water.

Washing machine efficiency tips

• Wash a full load 40ºC cotton washes are designed to take a full drum’s worth of laundry, so always try to wash the maximum amount in each load to get the most value from the water and energy you’re using.
• Avoid using extra rinse If you have very sensitive skin you may find it necessary to use the extra-rinse function on your washing machine to remove more detergent from laundered clothes. Try not to use this function unless it’s absolutely necessary, though – it’s another water waster
• Switch to 30ºC Washing at 30ºC instead of 40ºC can save you around £9 a year. Good quality laundry detergents designed for low temperatures during a 30ºC program are good, and help use an average of 40% less electricity per wash

Energy labelling

All washing machines are awarded an official EU efficiency rating, from A (most efficient) to G (least efficient), to help you find the machines that are cheapest to run.

The efficiency of washing machines has improved rapidly in recent years, so you’ll find most washing machines on sale today are rated A or B. To help you differentiate between models at the upper end of the efficiency scale, the EU has set out plans to re-grade energy labels – adding ‘beyond-A’ ratings of A+, A++ and A+++. The more pluses the label has, the more energy efficient the appliance is.

The EU energy labelling scheme can help you choose a greener washing machine, but be aware that its washing machine labelling test is based on a 60ºC cotton cycle. Because of this you may often find the energy label ratings on washing machines are inaccurate.

To mark 60 years of The Queen’s reign the Diamond Jubilee will take place in 2012. The celebrations will centre around an extended weekend in 2012 on 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th June.

The Queen was born Princess Elizabeth of York at 2.40am on 21 April 1926 at 17 Bruton Street, Mayfair, London. She was the first child of The Duke and Duchess of York, who were later crowned King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. At the time of her birth, Princess Elizabeth stood third in line of succession to the throne after Edward, Prince of Wales (later King Edward VIII), and her father, The Duke of York. But it was not expected that her father would become King, or that she would become Queen.

Princess Elizabeth’s quiet family life came to an end in 1936, when her grandfather, King George V, died. His eldest son came to the throne as King Edward VIII, but, before the end of the year, King Edward VIII had decided to give up the throne in order to marry the woman he loved, Mrs Wallis Simpson. Upon his abdication, Princess Elizabeth’s father acceded to the throne as King George VI, and in 1937 the two Princesses attended their parents’ coronation in Westminster Abbey.

Princess Elizabeth was now first in line to the throne, and a figure of even more intense public interest.

Haier has been ranked as the number one major appliance brand in the world  by international consumer research company Euromonitor.

The Chinese major appliance brand topped Euromonitor’s charts for the third consecutive year with a 7.8% share of total retail volume in 2011. These figures also signify a significant 1.7% growth for Haier in global brand share since 2010.

In addition to being named as the number one major appliance brand, according to Euromonitor’s research, Haier also gained the top position and is the world leader in several product categories. In refrigeration, Haier is the number one manufacturer with a 16.5 % retailer volume share and is also rated the number one brand with a 13.7% retail volume share. According to Euromonitor the brand has achieved the same success in the Freezer sector. It is now the world leader in freezer manufacturing with a 16.8% retail volume share and the number one freezer brand with a 16.7% share.

Haier is also the number one brand and manufacturer of wine coolers globally with a 16.1% retail volume share, up 1.3 points from 2010. The Chinese brand also topped the chart in home laundry appliances and is now the world’s leading brand with a 10.9% retail volume share, up 1.8 points from 2010.

These results signify that the brand is strengthening and expanding its presence on a global scale.

LG Electronics has announced that its new TrueSteam^TM Dishwasher (D1454BF) has been awarded the ‘Waterwise Recommended Checkmark’.  Using as little as 9 litres of water for a fully loaded dishwasher cycle – typically the same load would use up to 60 litres if washed by hand.

Four Smeg FAB30 50′s Style Retro Fridges, two pastel blue and two pastel green, will be appearing on the new series of ‘Great British Bake Off’ which airs this week, following on from such a successful series in the autumn.

The first show goes live this evening on BBC 2 at 8pm, the first of 4 1 hour long programmes aired this week. The contest comprises two heats where celebrities compete to be crowned ‘Bake Off’ champion in aid of Sports Relief.

Smeg Video Awarded Prize For Best Creative Idea

The prize ceremony for young directors MOVI&CO was held on 1st December at the Triennale in Milan. The winners included the viral video created for Smeg by Nicola Martini, which interprets the famous FAB fridge from an ironic and fun standpoint.
An original creative idea brought to life with a lively rhythm and playful feel. A free and uninhibited look which takes on the difficult task of approaching a style icon in order to interpret its soul in a new way. The film created for Smeg by the young video maker Nicola Martini makes the FAB fridge the star of a fun story, which transforms domestic life into a game.
The viral video came about as a result of Smeg’s participation in the VIII edition of MOVI&CO, an annual competition aimed at directors aged between 18 and 35 years of age for the conception and creation of advertisements, viral videos and company films.
The closing event took place at the Triennale in Milan with awards given to the most deserving projects. The jury headed by the Rector of the University IULM of Milan Giovanni Puglisi, which also included Renzo Arbore and the director Daniele Lucchetti, awarded the Smeg video the prize for Best Creative Idea.
Smeg wanted to be involved in MOVI&CO because they share the spirit of the initiative, which encourages the world of business to interact with that of young people, giving them the opportunities to make full use of their creativity for the development of new and different narrative ideas.
It is this freshness that gives extra value to the viral video, it is an unconventional form of communication which offers a new and original interpretation of the product. The 29-year old director Nicola Martini, welcomed the challenge to bring an icon of design like the 50’s retro Style Smeg fridge to the video, and to present an original take on its explosive personality not only in terms of its appearance but also from a functional point of view.
The idea originates from a domestic scene, where husband and wife come back home after doing the shopping. They start to put the food away in the fridge as if they were playing an absorbing game of Tetris, with increasing pace and competitive glances emphasised by the progression of the soundtrack inspired by the tune which accompanies the famous video game. In the last frames a virtual Tetris is formed with all the Smeg products from the 50’s Retro Style line in a cheerful puzzle full of colour.

The task faced by the director and his troupe required great care and insight so as not to distort or trivialise the product. The end result met all of Smeg’s expectations: the viral video, which will be published on YouTube and on the website www.smeg50style.com, is undoubtedly a good base for continuing to mutually exchange ideas on how to interpret this product’s huge personality.

Mysterious Tweets From Inside A Fridge

Let’s do this in an orderly fashion. First of all, you should know that this is a true story. Now then, some time ago, an alert popped up at the Metropolitan Police ‘s HQ, a system monitoring unusual goings on across the web.�

Their attention was caught after spotting  some messages on Twitter from people claiming to be inside a fridge. Further investigations led the riot squad, kitted out in full uniform, to the East End of London, a place by the name of  Artillery Lane. The building, raided by the policemen, was furnished in a vintage style dating back to a bygone era, the trendy 1950’s. The place was called the Breakfast Club. Nobody knows if it was the eclectic and unmatched style, colour, or even the messages  and tweets  which led them to this  secret detention place, but the policemen were instantly directed towards a solitary Smeg fridge in the building. They opened it ,and, with amazement,  discovered that the fridge door was in fact the secret passageway to a cell jam-packed with  prisoners. They were special prisoners though: captured to lead a life of fun and relaxed small talk, held  on the grounds of  their passion for places with unique style, hostages of design.

To the policemen, the relaxed atmosphere and the quality of the food and endless menu of drinks the place offered gave them no alternative other than to also declare themselves prisoners for a couple of hours in the bar inside the fridge, run by the Mayor of the mysterious Scaredy Cat Town.
