Everything you need to know about prosecco

Prosecco…a popular choice!

Prosecco has quickly become one of the most popular alcoholic drinks in the world. In 2018 sales even outperformed its rival, Champagne by ten to one! Around 150 million bottles of Prosecco are produced every year. Naturally, the Italians make up 35% of the annual consumption. It is their national tipple after all! Outside of Italy, the UK is in the top three markets for this delightful aperitif, along with America and Germany.

Quality control

The grape, formerly known as Glera, was renamed in 2009 to stop imitators using the name Prosecco. The authenticity of this sparkling wine is very fiercely protected. In fact, the grape is only grown in nine Italian Provinces in the Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giula regions. Winemakers must adhere to very strict regulations, ensuring the highest standards are maintained. If you spot ‘DOCG’ on your bottle this is classed as ‘Superiore’. Cultivated in a very small area, these particular grapes create the highest quality Prosecco.

Classic Prosecco cocktails…

Not only does it taste great on its own, you can also make some of the best Italian cocktails using Prosecco! An Aperol Spritz, which is especially popular in Milan, is very cosmopolitan not to mention refreshing. Mix Aperol with a dash of soda and a generous helping of Prosecco and ice. The perfect summer cocktail! Equally as delicious, the Bellini, originally created in Venice, is the perfect choice. Simply add peach puree to your glass of Prosecco – cheers!

Perfectly chilled…

A classic tall, fluted glass is the perfect option for Prosecco. Because of the height and shape of a fluted glass, the bubbles and aroma are preserved for longer. Of course, Prosecco is best served chilled. At Appliance City, we have a wide range of wine coolers on offer. Ensure that your bottles are kept to the optimum temperature, ready for whenever you need them. We supply slim under counter coolers as well as full height appliances that can hold over one hundred bottles! Whether you are looking for built in or fully integrated, it’s safe to say, there are plenty of products to choose from!
