Cooker hoods are an important kitchen appliance as they keep the air clean and odour free. Using a cooker hood helps to eliminate cooking aromas, grease and steam. A powerful, good quality extractor will help to keep your cooking area clean and hygienic. Better air quality is good for your health and well being. Another benefit of using a cooker hood is that it helps to improve fire safety in your home. A build up of grease and cooking residue can be highly flammable, so using a kitchen extractor helps to reduce the risk of fire. Cooker hoods come in a range of different styles to suit your needs and preferences. Choosing a high quality kitchen extractor will benefit your kitchen for years to come. Some island hoods even double up as an eye catching focal point.
Choosing the right extractor for your kitchen is important. Depending on the size of your space and the height of your ceiling, there are different cooker hoods to suit. Chimney hoods are a popular choice and are wall mounted above your hob. These come in a variety of sizes and styles, giving you more options to choose from. If you’re looking for more discrete extraction, there are a few different cooker hood styles to choose from. Canopy hoods are fitted into a wall unit or chimney breast above your hob and work well in a kitchen with other integrated appliances. Ceiling hoods work well in an open plan kitchen as they discretely fit into the ceiling above your hob. These do not obstruct your view and blend into your room seamlessly. The higher your ceilings, the more extraction power you will need, so it is important to check this before you buy.
All kitchens will benefit from having a cooker hood. A well ventilated space is better for your health, cleanliness and safety. Extracting cooking aromas, steam and grease helps to keep the air and your cooking area clean. There are cooker hoods to suit every preference, so even if you’re limited on space, there are compact models that take up minimal space. For open plan kitchens there are powerful extractors that are well equipped to tackle larger spaces. If you cannot duct the air outside of your home, many cooker hoods can recirculate the air using charcoal filters. It is important to choose the right type of ducting to ensure you get the best results.
The style of extractor you choose will depend on your available space and your personal preference. Some range cookers have matching hoods available. This can create a cohesive look in your kitchen and create a real focal point. There are different cooker hood widths to choose from. Choosing the right size hood is important and you’ll need it to cover the whole cooking zone, effectively capturing steam and odours. Your hood doesn’t need to match your cooker or hob specifically, however there are benefits to choosing matching appliances. Some hoods and hobs are designed to work together. For example, using AEG’s Hob2Hood technology, you can change the extraction level directly from the hob.
In an open plan kitchen, there are a couple of cooker hood types to choose from. If you’re looking for a sleek and minimal design, a ceiling hood would be the best option. Built discretely into your ceiling, a ceiling hood will not obstruct your view across the room. However if you have an island, some customers prefer the style of an island hood above their hob. An island hob can create a stunning focal point and we have a few different finishes and styles to choose from. Another thing to consider in an open plan living space is the extraction rate. In a large space you’ll want a powerful extraction rate to combat lingering steam and cooking aromas. With this in mind, you’ll also want to consider the noise levels of your cooker hood. When you cook, eat and relax in one open space, you’ll want to keep noise levels to a minimum. Our range of cooker hoods vary in decibel level, you can find the quietest extractors on the market using our Quiet Mark filter. Quiet Mark certified models are independently rated as the quietest on the market. Choosing one of these cooker hoods will ensure noise levels in your kitchen are kept to a minimum.
Installing a kitchen hood can be a relatively simple job, but this all depends on the type of extractor you’re installing. A recirculating hood doesn’t require any external ducting as you recirculate the air via charcoal filters. Fitting a recirculating hood can be a fairly easy task if you are confident with DIY. Cooker hoods which duct the air outside your home require a little more work to install. To duct outside, you need to cut a hole either in your floor, ceiling or external wall. The ducting hose will extract the air from your cooker hood outside of your home. It is important to check the maximum ducting length as this can affect the extraction performance. If you’re unsure how to install your kitchen extractor, it is always best to hire a professional.
Choosing an overhead cooker hood or an air venting hob is down to personal preference. An air venting hob is a modern option and combines two appliances in one, which is handy for saving space. It also means you can control both the extraction levels and the heat directly from the hob. Using an air venting hob means you’re extracting steam and grease directly from the source which can be more efficient. Despite the many benefits of an air venting hob, this option isn’t the most suitable option for every home. Most air venting hobs are induction, so if you prefer gas cooking, a cooker hood would be the best choice. If you prefer a more traditional style, or you have a range cooker, then you’ll want to opt for an overhead cooker hood.
We have a wide selection of cooker hoods supplied by the top extraction brands. If you’re looking for a cooker hood to match your range cooker, we have a vast selection from brands such as Rangemaster, Belling and Stoves. Some of our AEG cooker hoods feature Hob2Hood technology which means you can connect them to your hob. For sleek and stylish ceiling hoods, shop our range of Elica extractors. Once you’ve received your new cooker hood, its important you register it for the manufacturer warranty. Each manufacturer provides a different warranty period, ranging from 12 months to five years. To do this, you need to visit the manufacturer’s website and fill in your details. These will include the serial number, date of purchase and proof of purchase along with your contact details. Some manufacturer’s will require you to register within a specific timeframe, so it is important to do this as soon as you receive your goods.
