Frequently Asked Questions: LG Soundbars

LG TV and soundbar

The visual quality of modern televisions is incredible. With LG’s OLED TV’s you get infinite contrast and intricate details. The colours are bright, beautiful, and every image is pinpoint perfect.

With this quality of visuals, you need your accompanying audio to be clear, crisp and completely immersive. Not all TV’s are up to that standard, but a soundbar will blast you right into the middle of the action. It will fill your room with sound and leave no dialogue unheard.

When you’re building a full-on home cinema experience, a soundbar is a must-have.

But it can be hard to pick the right one for you. Even when you’ve purchased your perfect product,  finding how to access the features you need can be complicated.

We thought we’d give you a hand with setting up your LG soundbar and answer some of the most frequently asked questions around these incredible soundbars and how to use them.

How to connect LG soundbar to TV

Different models of LG soundbar will have different connection options. There is a model to support nearly every method of connection from the incredible quality of an HDMI eARC to the convenience of a wireless Bluetooth connection.

  • If you’re buying a new soundbar it is always worth checking that it will support your chosen method.
  • If you have an LG TV you can use an HDMI cable for basic plug-in-and-play functionality, but setting up a wireless connection should be simple too.
  • Just go into the sound settings on your TV and choose the soundbar as your output method.

Do LG soundbars work better with LG TV?

It is possible to pair different brands of TV and soundbar together. This level of compatibility is standard, as not everyone buys these appliances at the same time. You will still get an impressive, immersive sound experience when you mix and match the brands of your TV and soundbar.

However, if you’re investing in a soundbar and TV at the same time, it is worth getting them from the same brand if possible. The company has confirmed that their soundbars have enhanced functionality when paired with their own brand televisions.

Using a matching brand of television and soundbar will also make for an easier set-up process as they were originally designed with each other in mind.

Can my LG TV remote control my soundbar?

One definite benefit of having the same brand across your TV and your soundbar is that you can easily pair your TV remote to control the soundbar using LG’s SIMPLINK technology.

Though the functionality may be slightly more limited than the independent soundbar remote, all the basics such as volume control are covered. It will give you one less remote to lose.

Are LG soundbars any good?

  • LG soundbars are generally considered to match high-quality audio with reliability. They feature adaptive technology which uses AI to determine the layout of a room and provide the best sound for the space.
  • They are also available at a range of price points with varying features so that there are options to suit most pockets.

The decision on whether an LG soundbar is the best one for you though is not so easy to say. This will depend on a number of factors, including what brand your TV is and exactly what features you want to prioritise.

How do I connect my LG soundbar to Alexa?

Another benefit of LG soundbars is their in-built microphone which allows you to use Google Assistant and Alexa.

This doesn’t just mean you can control your TV and soundbar using your voice (though that is a pretty great option). If you have other LG branded smart appliances in your home, such as a washing machine or fridge, you can use voice control to activate them too.

Simply set up the soundbar correctly and you could potentially control your whole home from the comfort of your couch.

Can I add speakers to my LG soundbar?

All of our LG soundbars feature surround sound technology, with bounce sound and up-firing speakers immersing you fully in the action.

However, you may want to build your own surround sound experience by placing satellite speakers around the room. With certain models of LG soundbar, you have the option to pair additional speakers with your soundbar.

It may even be possible to connect another soundbar in another room to make your whole home sing.

If you want to spread physical speakers around a room, refer back to the user manual of your soundbar. To ensure the easiest set-up and confirm compatibility make sure your additional speakers are also made by LG.

How do I connect LG soundbar to subwoofer?

If you’re investing in an LG soundbar, you may decide to get a separate subwoofer as well.

A subwoofer works with the low pitch frequencies of sound, to help these come through clearer and crisper. They aren’t exactly essential, but as the other speakers are optimised for higher frequencies, a subwoofer will enhance the bass sounds a lot. It’s a worthwhile investment, particularly if you plan to listen to a lot of music on your soundbar.

Certain models of LG soundbar will even have a separate subwoofer included as standard.

If you have a separate LG subwoofer to go with your LG soundbar you don’t even have to worry about the pairing process. It is so simple.

To connect wirelessly, all your need to do is switch them both on. The subwoofer is set to make an automatic connection and is only able to pair with the soundbar. It should do all the work for you.

Can I wall mount an LG soundbar?

Wall mounting your TV can save space, help your home feel less cluttered and even improve your viewing experience by creating a more comfortable angle. And if your TV is mounted on the wall, the last thing you want is to have to drag in an awkward table or waste shelf space to hold your soundbar.

With an LG soundbar that isn’t a problem as it is possible to mount them on the wall too. They will need a separate bracket to the TV which can be fitted anywhere you please, above or below the TV.

Many of the LG soundbars that we stock, will even have the bracket, fittings and user guide included with your main soundbar purchase.

Installing it is a doddle too, particularly compared to a TV as a soundbar is nowhere near as heavy or cumbersome to lift and fit as 65-inch telly.
