New homeowners have enough on their plates, never mind trying to remember what kitchen appliances they need from the get-go. Oven mitts are probably right up there at the top of the most-forgotten list. We always remember the basics – the fridge, the freezer, the kettle, and the microwave. 

When kitting out a new kitchen for the first time, it is important to remember everything that you need to operate within the kitchen. For new homeowners, the commodities are pushed aside by the stresses of moving and kitting out the rest of the house. 

What do I need for my first kitchen?

Whilst we’ll never forget the kettle that makes our morning coffee or the oven that’s going to cook our first meals, there are many utensils we are bound to forget in our first kitchen. Even the most simple things that we often take for granted.

Make sure to get all your chopping utensils first. The knife and the cheese grater are essential because they cannot be replaced with any other tool. You will also need a cutting board so you don’t ruin your new countertops.

If you’re a keen baker, then don’t forget the measuring implements. Scales and mixing bowls should be staples if you plan on making any cakes or cookies.

The can opener is one of the most important items in a kitchen. If you find that your can doesn’t have an easy peel-off ring, or if it accidentally falls off, then there will be absolutely no other way to open them except for this nifty tool.

How do I stock my kitchen for the first time?

No one likes being caught without the basic necessities and new homeowners are no exception. Make sure you don’t forget to stock up on those important items such as salt, pepper, oil or whatever else your recipes might require. Dried and canned foods, with long expiry dates, can live in your cupboards as long as you need them to.
