The small appliances that typically appear in most UK households are toasters, microwaves and kettles. We would consider these essential are they make cooking and preparing meals quick, convenient and efficient. For many, coffee machines are considered an essential small appliance. If you are a huge coffee lover, you will certainly reap the benefits of a built in or freestanding coffee machine. If you are an avid baker, a stand mixer will certainly be an essential appliance. If you prefer a shop bought cupcake, you might not appreciate the value of a large stand mixer taking up valuable countertop space. This also applies to frozen drink makers and blenders. If you don’t use them regularly, you probably won’t need one in your kitchen! A small appliance that is becoming more popular is the air fryer, and an absolute essential in any kitchen, thanks to their faster cooking times and healthier results. With their versatility and practical design, air fryers are a fantastic option for any kitchen.

The short answer is, no, you don’t need to hire a professional to install most small appliances! Most small appliances only require plugging into a mains socket to switch on and do its job. Because of this, it is highly unlikely that you will need to hire a professional to install it. For built in small appliances, such as coffee machines for tall housing units, you may consider hiring a professional to ensure installation is done correctly and won’t affect any potential warranties you may have. However, this all depends on your experience and confidence. While we don’t provide a built in coffee machine installation service at Appliance City, a local handyman will certainly help you install a built in coffee machine.

Air fryers have truly taken the kitchen appliance community by storm. With their compact appearance, quick cooking, and healthier results, it’s no wonder that air fryers have become just as useful in the kitchen as ovens and microwaves. With single drawer to XL models available, you have plenty of freedom to cook meals with an air fryer for just yourself, as well as the whole family. One of the most popular air fryer brands on the market, and our personal favourite, is Ninja. Experts in a range of small cooking appliances, Ninja air fryers have perfected the art of cooking crispy and moist fried food with little to no oil. Ninja offer single, dual and double stacked air fryers at a reasonable price that stand the test of time due to their innovative design and energy efficient operation.

There are a range of lawnmower appliance brands that can provide high performance lawn care for your garden. From corded to cordless lawn mowers to robotic lawn mowers, there are plenty of trustworthy and reliable lawn care brands to choose from. While Bosch have an extensive range of powerful and precise corded and cordless lawnmowers, Dreame have adapted their robot vacuum cleaning technology to trim the grass in your garden without you needing to manually do it yourself. While it may seem odd to let your lawnmower mow your lawn itself, Dreame’s innovative technology creates a 3D map of your garden to mow efficiently with minimal supervision and appliance maintenance.

Once you have received your small appliance, it is important to register to claim a manufacturer’s warranty if your appliance has one. Different manufacturers will provide different warranties, while some may offer special promotional periods where you can buy a product and apply for an extended warranty. To register the warranty on your small appliance, you will need to visit the manufacturer’s website and enter your details. These may include your name, contact details, date & proof of purchase and your model’s serial number. Some manufacturer’s will require you to register within a specific timeframe, so it is important to do this as soon as you receive your small appliance.

To avoid unnecessary e-waste, making sure you dispose of your old small appliance correctly is key. If your old small appliance is in satisfactory condition, you could give it a clean and give to a friend or donate it to a local charity shop. If your small appliance is damaged beyond repair, there are plenty of recycling services that will take your appliance for you and dispose of it properly. Recycling centres and appliance retailers are more than happy to take your old small appliances off your hands. Some services, such as local council refuse pick up, may require a small removal fee. You can find your most convenient electrical recycling locations on the UK’s official Recycle Your Appliance page. While it may just seem easier to throw your unwanted small appliances in the bin, you will do the environment a world of good by using the correct means of disposal.

Just because there are so many small appliances available, doesn’t mean you have to own them all. Not only would this be a waste of money, but you’d have no space left in your kitchen to sit and eat! One of the main things to consider when purchasing a new small appliance, would be how much you would actually use it. For example, if you drink tea and instant coffee throughout the day and find yourself pre-boiling water most dinner times, you will certainly need a kettle. Unless you’re looking to improve your baking skills, you probably don’t need a huge stand mixer (no matter how beautiful they can be!). Small appliances tend to gather dust when left unused, so unless you can’t function without one specifically, you probably don’t need it! You should also consider how much energy each small appliance will use, the type of food and beverages you make most often, and, of course, your budget. If appearance is important to you, you should also check if your potential new small appliances will complement the design of your kitchen and your other appliances.

It is rare that you will find a small appliance with an official energy rating that you may find on dishwashers and other larger appliances. This is because their range of functions, fast operation and inconsistent usage make it difficult to assign each small appliance with a standardised energy rating. How much energy your small appliances will use depends entirely on your habits. While it is hard to predict exactly how much energy your appliances will use, there are many ways you can help reduce your energy consumption. For example, when kettles are filled with high amounts of water, they will take longer to boil. If you only use the amount of water you need, your kettle will expend a lot less energy when in use!
