Downdraft hoods offer powerful yet quiet extraction, making them an ideal choice if you enjoy entertaining. We have a great selection of stylish downdraft hoods from top brands such as Franke, AEG and Bosch.

This type of extractor is usually built into the unit behind the hob. The hood sits beneath your work surface until it is switched on. The hood then rises electronically from under the worktop. Downdraft hoods draw steam from the hob down below the work surface. You can either duct outside or recirculate the air using charcoal filters, if ducting outside isn’t an option. If you are recirculating you would normally fit a ventilation grille in the plinth below to allow the warm air to escape.

Some downdraft hoods are designed to be flush fitted into a solid worktop such as granite or quartz for a perfectly seamless look.

A downdraft hood is a popular option in a open plan kitchen because the hood is hidden when it isn’t in use. This allows you to keep your kitchen looking sleek and streamlined. Downdraft hoods also work well in kitchens where other cooker hoods aren’t a viable option. For example, if you have double height ceilings in your kitchen, a ceiling hood would be too far away from the hob to be able to extract efficiently. Therefore a downdraft hood would be a fantastic alternative.

If you need a different type of cooker hood, browse the Extraction section for our complete range. We have many different cooker hood styles to choose from so you’ll be able to find the ideal extractor for your kitchen.
