Its that time of year again when Britain’s favourite baking show returns to our screens with a new series (now series 7) and new group of contestants, ready to battle it out to be crowned the UK’s best amateur baker.

For anyone who hasn’t ever seen GBBO (abbreviation at its finest) then here is a quick break down of what the programme entails. Over the course of 10 hour-long episodes, the series follows the trials and tribulations of the competitors of all ages, from every background and from every corner of the UK, as they attempt to prove their baking prowess. Each week differs as the bakers tackle a different baking skill and challenge. Which naturally gets progressively more difficult as the competition unfolds.

The challenges….

Signature bake…

This challenge tests the baker’s personality, creative flair and baking ability. The key to this challenge is for the bakers to produce something rustic, cute and altogether home-made looking. It’s in this challenge that the bakers get to show off their tried and tested hand cooked bites.

Technical bake…

This challenge is where the competition really begins. All bakers will be given one basic recipe, with the same ingredients and instructions and asked to produce the finished product. Any variation on the finished product will be a result of their own knowledge and experience, or in fact lack of. Bakers are exposed in this challenge as this is where the pressures really are in the bake-off.

Showstopper bake…

This is the final challenge, where the gloves well and truly come off. This is where the bakers are able to showcase their depth of skill and talent. The complexities of this challenge call for a professional standard in taste and appearance. The judges will be looking for impressive and elaborate creations, not only in design but in taste too. This needs to be a first class bake – one worthy of the title.

The real reason…

Ok so this blog wasn’t specifically just to talk about GGBO (I promise). It was mainly to discuss the appliances set to be used this series. Now this isn’t the first year this product has been used on GBBO, it is however more advanced this time round. Which product are we talking about? The Neff Slide&Hide of course, what else!?

So the Slide&Hide used in this year’s GBBO is an easy clean (Pyrolytic) self cleaning single oven with VarioSteam. What does this mean? Well it is an electric single oven, offering an impressive 71L capacity, CircoTherm technology (simply works by drawing air in from the oven via a powerful fan. It then heats up the air and forces it right back into the oven cavity through strategically placed ducts in the rear wall. This means by continuously circulating the hot air around the oven means the desired temperature its reached quickly and evenly), and 13 cooking functions. It also has VarioSteam technology which is one to love (simply add a little water to the hidden water tank and give your food dishes just the right amount of moisture to ensure full intense flavours). The best feature of this oven is no doubt its disappearing oven door, which makes accessing your culinary creations even easier. Cutting down on any spillages or even worse, burns.

Joining the Slide&Hide this year is the Neff warming drawer. This pretty much does what it says on the tin, warms. This stylish warming drawer is 29cm high and is finished in stainless steel. It is simply perfect for warming food or crockery.

The combination of these two appliances will ensure there is one less stress for the contestants on this years GBBO to worry about. One less thing to trip over, one less thing to worry about bakes going cold. Neff is creating a simpler, easier, more convenient way of cooking without any compromise on performance and style. As I have mentioned in a previous blog about the Neff Slide&Hide, it is literally my favourite product at the moment and for me it is a no brainer when choosing the perfect built in appliances for any kitchen, not just the kitchen on GBBO.
