Sweet but Twisted – it’s Candy Cane day

Sweet, twisted, small but unquestionably versatile. Candy canes are suitable as an edible treat or gift, decoration or pamper product. We’ve included some of our favourite ideas as to how they can be used. Truthfully, there are lots more that we may not yet have come across, with time and creativity the candy cane versatility is endless.

Candy Cane Fudge

In just ten minutes, these chocolate swirled, fudge filled peppermint and candy cane cakes from Sally’s baking addiction are the perfect quick fix. With just five ingredients required, these are incredibly simple to make. If you can bare to share, serve to friends and family over Christmas this year.

Candy Cane Martini

After slaving over the oven, multiple pots, pans and chopping boards Christmas Day morning – this is definitely a treat for the designated Christmas Day cook. If the picture is anything to go by, then I may even add this to the list of drinks available at my own Christmas family dinner. Although, the dancing to follow after one too many quickly puts a dampener on that. Embarrassing. This girl walks in to a bar explains how to make this little treat.

Candy Cake Milkshake

This recipe from the Hopeless Housewife proves that she is most definitely not hopeless – these look lovely and quite frankly, I’m a big fan of anything with mint, so big thumbs up from me. The ribbons make such a difference to the presentation and without trying them (yet) I’m sure they taste just as good as they look.

Peppermint Bark Popcorn

In my family, its customary that at some point over Christmas and after the all important turkey and trimmings are eaten, we all sit down to watch a film. For the most part, we try not to nod off after such a big dinner. For those of us that stay awake, this peppermint popcorn would be a perfect addition – seasonal and logical. Who doesn’t eat popcorn whilst watching films? Cooking Classy shows you how.

Candy Cane Scrub

As an alternative to all things edible, this Peppermint Sugar Scrub from Raining Hot Coupons would be great as a little gift. It smells wonderful. The sugar scrub is used to exfoliate your skin, leaving you glowing for your night out (or in) on New Years Eve.

Apart from the Candy Cane Martini’s (for fear of what dancing may follow) I’ll be taking some time out this Christmas to follow these great ideas. I particularly love the milkshake idea, it covers all the family from young to younger to old and older – it’s a way to get everyone involved. I’ll be experimenting with different flavours and I have a little suspicion that adding chocolate will make it SO much better. After all, mint choc chip is my favourite of ice cream flavours.
